There is no denying that black is always in fashion and an easy way to create a chic look. I choose all black attire often as a quick way to feel put together and I can easily change up my outfit with accessories. What I am seeing for fashion and design trends, as the two often intersect, is that brown might be the new black for Fall 2018. Consider these looks from Chloe AW18 and Dion Lee AW18 (Getty Images) respectively. These colors evoke warmth and make me ready to wear a pair of fabulous leather boots. While both of these looks are extremely feminine, there is something inherently rugged about this color.
It's no surprise that using these shades in your home will also create a warm, cozy environment that is sure to feel perfect when it's time to start lighting the fireplace! There is nothing that screams rugged and warm like a distressed leather sofa. I recently used this Modern Chesterfield from West Elm in a living space. The slightly distressed leather adds warmth to a classic sofa style that is modernized with a streamlined scale. Add a few soft pillows and a cozy throw blanket and you have the perfect spot to cuddle and sip on some tea.
In a home office that we will complete this month, I selected the iconic Eames Management Chair. I almost went with an ivory leather, but in the end we felt the tobacco leather shown here would be a nice contrast with the other elements in the room, and create a nice balance of feminine and masculine in a shared space. I can't wait to show you that room!
I've got brown woven leather stools in front of my fireplace, a camel colored leather Wassily chair and a suede espresso heard board in my bedroom. I've always loved the versatility of brown in interiors. Do you have any brown upholstered pieces in your home? I think they are a safe investment that will stand the test of time.
