Brass is everywhere but I feel like it was already huge in 2013 and 2012 also. I love it. BUT, I'm growing tired of seeing it everywhere. I still love chrome, nickel, and silver satin finishes too. I think Copper is going to be the next trend because, well, there is not much else out there. I like the idea of mixing copper with silver and started my own COPPER LOVE Pinterest Board that has all kinds of goodies to see.
Leopard and Cheetah prints have been huge for years and I think are probably here to stay as a sort of 'neutral'. Honestly they mix into any interior and go with every color! I am ready to see snakeskin prints and crocodile like textures for 2014...adding to the animal print theme to mix it up a bit and keep things fresh. I imagine a chic library or office with a textured snakeskin wall covering.
Finally I think we will(or should) get back to more neutral furnishings and keep the pattern to rugs, pillows and accessories. I love color and pattern but it's a big commitment when you use it on an expensive piece of furniture. I want to make sure the client loves the fabric and is willing to commit for at least 5 years before wanting to possibly re-upholster the piece to keep on trend. Trends in general are something I want to see in small accents in the home, but stay away from in large doses if possible to avoid looking dated in a couple of years. Look for pieces that speak to you and that you love- and you won't go wrong. That is why I love classic lines, antiques and unique pieces that not everyone has. For the furry pillows and 'color' of the year- stick with accessories so you can switch it out affordably. I'm going to go curl up with my furry Mongolian wool pillow now.....while it's still fashionable.
