Happy September! I'll keep this newsletter short and sweet. With the holidays coming soon, I want to remind you to reach out now if you are hoping to get any new custom furniture or drapery/bedding in before the new year. If you need help with a refresh of bedding, pillows, or even help with table settings, I am happy to help.

Lead times are mostly on track right now but it does still take a good 14 weeks average for anything custom.
With that said, I am pleased to announce that I now can furnish a space in 2 weeks if you are in need! Some of my vendors are stocking in Dallas warehouses so we have more available to choose from. While this means we are selecting from more limited options, it is so exciting to be able to offer this to my clients. Adding some custom pillows and art makes it even more personalized.
  • Furnish a guest house or bedroom
  • First home
  • Assisted living
  • Condo in another city
  • Investment Property
  • College Apartment

Recently I had the pleasure of assisting a repeat client in moving her father into an independent living facility. The building is modern and filled with art. He is a modernist and avid art collector so my work was made easier. After one visit to the new space, we were able to move all of his own things and only purchase two new rugs, and one media credenza. We had 16 pieces of art hung in one day and outfitted three rooms, two bathrooms and kitchen. Utilizing some of my in stock dealers made the process  possible.

Let me know how I can help and have a fabulous September.

A Cabin Collaboration

One of my best buddies, a retired interior designer, gave me the opportunity to collaborate with her on a new project- decorating a main cabin and two smaller guest cabins on land they purchased. I previously helped with her main residence and a beach house. We work so well together I jumped at the chance- and getting to the forests and mountains of North Carolina seemed like a great idea to me. We recently completed the installation of all three cabins so I thought I'd share some pictures and the process.

The land has its own waterfall and is truly remote in Spruce Pine, NC. They had to clear the land, install conduit for electric, create roads so it is drivable, and they even got to name the street! How special is that?

These cabins are prefabricated. They were able to select the models they wanted and we added our own hardware, lighting, paint selections (the first time they had a request for painted floors and fireplaces) to make it more personal.

After seeing the floor plans and discussing the feel she wanted (think modern cabins with some rustic touches) I got to work with mood boards and sourcing product that was available right away.

Here are the mood boards for the main cabin shown here painted navy. It has a primary bed and bathroom with a tub and shower, two bedrooms upstairs with one shower/bath combo, a large living area, laundry, kitchen and third bathroom and a guest room downstairs. It's a good size!

Here are some installation photos of the main house. We are so pleased with the outcome. We are thinking of having slides installed to slide downhill from the guest cabins to the main cabin. Why not?

Below are some photos of the small guest cabins painted white. I was shown images of vintage art, accessories and rugs already purchased that were inspiration for the selections I made.
We also found more pieces to integrate into the spaces at an antique market while there.
Each cabin has a main bedroom with queen bed, a bathroom, small kitchen, and loft bunk space.
Picture
Install days are the most gratifying but also the most exhausting! We filled each cabin with toiletries, kitchenware, blankets to curl up in, games to play, coffee makers, and more. The moving crew was amazing and after 5 trucks and 5 days, it was complete. Because of the remote location, multiple smaller trucks had to be used. 11 Mattresses got installed. All beds were made and art was hung. We walked up hill and got sweaty but had the most fun and rewarded ourselves with take-out and wine nightly :)

If you have any questions, shoot me a message. These cabins were really well done and we were impressed with quality.

I hope you enjoy your August and last month of summer. Fall is just around the corner!

July- When life gives you lemons.....

6/24/2024

Howdy friends. July's newsletter is a bit different than my usual letters. I try to be positive and focus on the good and wanted to share some thoughts I had recently. I found myself on one of my morning walks this week complaining in my head about how hot it is....it's just a bit much for June! While it is the truth, I tried to reframe my thoughts and think about what I could focus on instead.

When it's summer, and hot, is there any better time to enjoy ice cold lemonade? Do tomatoes ever taste better? Is the sound of cicadas in the trees almost a little nostalgic and sweet?

With this heat we get to truly enjoy that dip in a swimming pool. There is nothing better. And let's count our blessings for air conditioning. I love a 5 minute rest under the ceiling fan with the A/C blowing after being in the sun. It's the simple things that even in this heat, are just better.

So if you find yourself cursing under your breath at the heat index, I recommend immediately going to get yourself an ice cold lemonade and appreciate just how good it tastes when it's 95 degrees out (or hotter).

With that, I will let you go but I also want to share a poem that I read several years ago that talks about being "a bit much" and a reminder that sometimes a bit much is just perfect.

She's a Bit Much by Lyndsay Rush

You mean like a bonus french fry at the bottom of the bag?  Like a champagne shower?  Like triple texting good news?  Like buying coffee for the person behind you in line?  Or did you mean "a bit much" like an unexpected upgrade to business class? / or theme parties/ or the band pretending to go off stage and then coming back for an unforgettable encore? Perhaps you are referring to that thing of being astonished by a sunset/ or how puppies flop around when they learn to run/ or the way some people take karaoke really seriously? Maybe you just meant sprinkles/ confetti/ balloon drops/ witty comebacks/ generous tips/ fireworks/ waterslides/ serotonin/ cherries on top/ and the fact that maybe we were put on this planet simply to enjoy ourselves? Then yes, I agree- she is a bit much. Aren't we so lucky she's here?

Hope you enjoy that one as much as I do...a good reminder that a bit much can be a wonderful thing.

June- If You Like Pina Coladas....

Happy June, friends. It's about to get really hot here in Dallas and that means pool season AND the perfect time to enjoy some frozen drinks (as if you needed a reason).

My friend and I were out having a lovely girls' lunch and talking about how much we love a good frozen drink, so I decided to create a list of some of the top on my list and share them with you.

I suppose with the title of the blog I will start with a perfect pina colada from an unexpected spot....

GREENPOINT, pictured below, has quickly become one of my favorite spots for lunch. I love the finish out and the vibe. Seeing a pina colada on a seafood menu seemed a little unusual since we aren't beach side, but we gave it a shot and it's absolutely perfect. Treat yourself to one and enjoy.

Picture
MESERO has a Froze that is tart, delicious and a little dangerous. They have a 2 drink max with this one so plan accordingly. Perhaps it's the addition of vodka :). It's really good and was also a surprise to me as I usually go for a margarita there.

MI COCINA is famous for their Mambo Taxi but I am a fan of the Double Barrel Margarita. Their signature frozen margarita is topped off with Hornitos 6 month barrel aged Anejo for a rich and slightly smoky flavored addition. Ask for a skinny if you are watching calories. This one also packs a mighty punch!

IL BRACCO / BOBBIES AIRWAY GRILL has a signature drink called the Bracco that is almost a frozen greyhound. If you enjoy a little bitter flavor like in an aperol spritz or negroni, you'll love this drink. Gin is the base and it's addictive. When you are at Bobbie's, take in the artwork and finish out. It's really well done. I love the warm, masculine feel.
Picture
HUDSON HOUSE is serving up the best frozen bellini in town and it's also really potent. I am sensing a theme here! With mango puree, sparkling wine, Grand Marnier AND vodka, you will be smiling to your brunch date for sure. I see these being packed to go and heading out the door by the 4 pack, so be sure and stock the freezer for your next pool party. Drinks to go in Texas?! Giddy Up.

SINGLE WIDE/ DOUBLE WIDE may not be your first stop of the night, but if you want a chocolaty treat, try their signature YooHoo YeeHaw. Think a frozen White Russian like drink. It's a perfect dessert! I've also had great fun playing Bingo at Single Wide and Double Wide has live music.
Picture
BROOKHOLLOW COUNTRY CLUB has a classic screwdriver served frozen that has been around forever. IYKYK. Poolside or on the greens, it's a refreshing option if you are in need of a boozy delight.

What have I missed? Do you have any favorites or a home recipe to share? Send it my way.

Until next month....cheers y'all!

April- About Me

Happy April everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend.

Most of my clients follow my Instagram page where I shared some " about me" snippets recently.
If the crazy algorithm made you miss it or you are not a follower, see below. Thank you for your support and interest over the years!
Picture
My business turned 10 years old last year.

I’m a native Texan and I am the youngest of 3 girls.

I have 2 rescue terrier mutts, love animals and donate monthly to a local rescue organization.

I love a good cocktail and tequila is my very favorite.

I enjoy walking in my Lakewood neighborhood getting a daily dose of nature. We have wonderful trees and I’m close to the lake.

Beach vacations are the best vacations.

I adore music and spend a lot of time listening to favorites, finding new artists, and making playlists. I will hog the jukebox.

I’m obsessed with finding art and artists and am thrilled when clients connect with the artists I share with them. My father was a collector and when he passed it ignited an interest in me I didn’t know I had.

I love cooking but have not mastered any baking (yet).

I need at least one day a week to be alone and recharge.

I love candles, perfume and aromatherapy. I truly believe scent can change the vibe.

Fall is my favorite season.

Christmas lights are magical.

I love “Dad” jokes and sarcasm while also being very sensitive.

I swear like a sailor.

I’m a morning person and my mornings with coffee and playing Wordle is my favorite time each day.

I have 2 nieces and one nephew and 3 Godchildren.

My family calls me JJ.

I will apologize when I’ve done wrong.

I take a bath every day. Water is healing.

I believe we should build a longer table and not a wall.

Thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart. If someone you know might a good fit to work with me, send them my way! And stay tuned for May's newsletter where I am sharing some favorite artists.

Talk soon.

MAY I show you some art?

2/13/2024

I absolutely love looking at art and spend a lot of time searching out new artists and galleries to share with clients. Art is subjective. There are so many different artists and genres available. While some collectors focus on one singular style of art, I believe the best collections contain a variety of styles. Not unlike a wine collection. Many aficionados have a certain grape and region they adore and buy more of, but isn't it fun to explore new varieties? With a good cheese board of course.

I also love when a traditional home or room has a modern art piece juxtaposed into it. Or the reverse for a modern home. Just be open to seeing new styles. You never know what will stand out to you.

I wanted to show a few artists in an array of styles that I continue to go back to lately. Let me know if you have a favorite to share with me. I would welcome any opportunity to see someone new. A day spent strolling art galleries is a day well spent!

March Madness

With warmer weather, sunny skies, flowers blooming and spring break, what's not to love about the month of March? It may not be official, but spring has sprung.

We also get the opening day of baseball on March 28th (GO RANGERS!), the first day of spring on March 19th, and March Madness begins Sunday, March 17th. Mark your calendars for all the big dates.

One thing that almost all my clients have in common is their love of entertaining. If you plan on hosting friends and family in your gorgeous home to celebrate the spring weather and sports, I've got a few ideas below to make life a little easier for you and your guests.

With those patio doors open and backyard shindigs beginning, I love the idea of this beverage tub customized with your name. When it's time for a party, just grab it from the garage and fill with your favorite drinks and plenty of ice so your friends can easily grab a drink. Cheers!

If you are firing up the grill or just serving take out, this melamine serving collection is great looking, neutral to go with any decor, and won't break outside.
Picture
Almost everyone has heard that the scent of citronella keeps mosquitos away, but did you know lavender also repels those darn bugs?  Trader Joe's has seasonal lavender that make a simple centerpiece for dining outside, and a sprig tucked into a napkin ring makes a pretty touch to your table scape. Here is an article with additional plants that repel bugs you can consider when it's time to spend more time outdoors.

If you need new outdoor furnishings, accessories or help styling a party, you know where to find me!
Happy Spring everyone!

February Fun

1/2/2024

It's already February and if you are like me, January was long! With an early snow and below freezing temps to trying to get back into reality after a long holiday, I am finally feeling like I'm back into a routine.

Speaking of freezing temps- I love a good snow in Texas but with a house that is 90 years old, I always fear that the pipes will burst. I found THESE to put on your outdoor faucets and decided to try them. They worked and gave me peace of mind. I continued to drip faucets inside, but felt like they are a good little trick if you need something. Just screw them in and run the water. Water doesn't flow unless the temp drops below 32 degrees, and then it will drip for you. Pretty Cool!

I also got my water key out and wanted to share a link to that if you don't have one. It's nice to have on hand and if you do need to turn off your water, this should do the trick.

Now for some fun things!
Valentine's Day is approaching and while some may think it's a silly Hallmark Holiday, I can't think of anyone who doesn't enjoy feeling like they have been thought of. Gift giving is part of my love language for friends, family and someone special.
Here are some ideas for you.

FLOWERS-

For something that is truly special and unique, the floral arrangements from Grange Hall, shown below,  are spectacular. They are contemporary, fresh and different.
Picture
Picture
Dr. Delphinium's is hard to beat with classic but gorgeous arrangements.

And don't forget Trader Joe's has a super affordable floral department if you need something quickly or want to buy in bulk to make mini arrangements for friends, teachers or colleagues.

JEWELRY-

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, but emeralds make really good buddies, too!
YLANG 23 is my favorite local spot. The staff is so helpful if you need suggestions.
I love Marla Aaron's jewelry, like this lock, among many others.

Babygold is an online shop with a variety of price points and styles.
Classic huggy style earrings never go out of style.

Picture
FOR HIM-

If he likes a good Happy Hour, how about this Craft Cocktail Kit? Just add a great bottle of spirits (the most important part) and it's a super gift.
Picture
This Ferragamo wallet is beautiful and well made, modern but classic.

Concert tickets are a fabulous gift and make for a fun memory and experience.

EXPERIENCES-

Like the idea of giving an experience?  Here are a few suggestions for you.

If a concert sounds fun but you're not sure which one (look I rhymed!), here are two smaller commitment performances that also make a great date night.

SoFar Sounds is a secret concert in an intimate space with local musicians. Some really big names have started out here so you never know who you'll see. Leon Bridges, Billie Eilish and Hozier are just a few. You just have to have an open mind and enjoy music of all kinds.

Candlelight Concerts offers a short classical program of well known artists and genres. Nirvana but make it symphony. Aretha Franklin done by an orchestra. This would be fun after dinner and drinks.

If you have a group of couples that want to celebrate together, why not hire a professional chef and bartender and leave the hard work to them while you enjoy the comfort of home and your own playlist.

If you enjoy the idea of learning from a pro, The Cookery is described as a cooking class meets dinner party and is loads of fun.

FOR KIDS-
Young kids love sweets so that is easy!
Add a cute themed shirt or pajamas to wear for the special day and you are done.
Check out Layette.

Picture
TEENAGERS-
For your teen daughters, jewelry applies too. You may want to do a simple gold or silver style Marla Aaron lock and it comes in a heart. Anything Lululemon is always well received also.
Picture
For teen boys I'm told these hoodies, or any hoodies, are a good option. Cookies might be a nice addition.
Picture
COLLEGE KIDS-
Money and sleep? Just kidding :)
But maybe a gift card, and a note just letting them know you are thinking of them would be a treat.
Or Tiff's Treats. Always Tiff's Treats!
A fun set of glasses for their bar cart, like these from Amazon, would be fun!

Still here? Thank you for reading my newsletter this month. I hope February is sweet as can be for you. I will be photographing a completed project this month and am working on a few fun things I hope to share with you soon.

If you remember in January I mentioned my 2024 goals and I'm doing well on most of them but need a little more practice being consistent with others (looking at my dusty journal now). How are you doing?

If you or someone you know is looking for design help, reach out and let's talk!
Until next time,
Jessica

January Musings

Cheers to a new year filled with fun, laughter and all your heart desires.

2023 was an incredible year for me professionally and personally. I have learned so much and grown immensely and am ready to start off this new year with an open heart and mind.

While enjoying my black-eyed peas and some bubbles on New Year's Day, I started writing down what I was grateful for in 2023. My family, friends and dear clients are all top of my list. I don't know how I continue to get the most amazing clients that truly turn into friends over and over, but I do. I want to let you know I'm so very thankful for your trust in me when choosing me for your project.

I also made some goals and I wanted to share them so maybe when we see each other next you can ask me how I'm doing with them.

Goal 1- 5 Minute Journal
I purchased a little journal that is quick, easy and helps to start your day off in the right direction with some goals and gratitude prompts. Check it out if you want.

Goal 2- Travel More
I am actively looking into my next trip so please share where you've visited lately that I should consider. Want to go on vacation?!?!

Goal 3- Exercise
I've been very committed and consistent for 18 months and have no plans to stop. It's part of my mental health care as much as it is my physical health. I'd love to get back into yoga again for flexibility and patience. It's always scary to go to that first class. What's the best studio in town?

Goal 4- Say Yes More
Yes to new restaurants. Yes to spontaneous road trips. Yes to a new recipe. Yes to new experiences.
What's the best new restaurant you've tried, lately? The picture above was taken at Green Point this past weekend and I already want to go back.

Once, again, Happy New Year and thank you for your business and referrals. It means so much to me and I am excited to get back to work after an amazing Holiday season. We are accepting new projects and have consultations booking now.
Cheers!

Let's Do Something Different

Picture
Hi there! Well, it's been a few YEARS since I wrote anything. I used to be great about keeping a blog and really did it just for fun to share things I was interested in at the time. Sometimes I would share photos from award shows and discuss fashion influencing interiors and vice versa. I also loved to share music I was listening to. But life got in the way, a few large projects took over my world and I lost interest.

But I'm back and want to share again. I hope you'll stick around!

I spent almost 2 years working on a new build that I wrapped up in May with a wonderful client and now friend. I've been sharing photos on Instagram and just loved the entire project. I also worked with a fabulous couple on a renovation project that wrapped up right before and we are waiting on a commissioned art piece and getting it just right so I can have it photographed to share with you too.

The two projects both gave me such joy and fulfillment while being completely different aesthetically. That is perhaps my favorite thing about my job....I get to do something new each day. With each client, I get to know them and their preferences and needs to help them create a unique and functional home. Each project is so different, and I love that. I would be really bored recreating the same look day in and day out. So, do you want to do something different? We are taking new clients in January of 2024! Reach out and let's set up a discovery call.
